Roses:

Perennials/Annuals:
Add summer colour to the garden. There are so many gorgeous colours and forms with our favourites this month being:
Perennials - SunPatiens (impatiens that love the sun), petunia, penstemon, geraniums, lavender, alstroemeria (great picking), dianthus, Federation Daisies ...
Encourage bees to your garden with lavender, gaura, penstemon ...
Monarch Butterflies are around - you may need to plant more than one swan plant as they are voracious feeders.
Annuals - petunia, lobelia (ideal for hanging baskets or borders), cosmos, marigolds, salvia, portulaca, verbena, zinnias, Sweet William ...
Dead-head regularly.
Containers, Pots, Hanging Baskets:
Colourful baskets or pots filled with flowers look great on the patio or veranda for summer.
Add Yates Saturaid to the potting mix to preserve moisture. Alternatively try the new Yates Soil Wetter.
Fuchsias:
Fuchsia's are still delighting. They can be pruned back lightly to encourage flowering to continue.
Enjoy produce straight from your garden - stagger your plantings so you have a continuous supply to harvest.
Prepare and add more goodness to the vege patch by digging in sheep pellets, Ican Real Blood and Bone, compost or vege mix and continue planting.
Plant: lettuce, rocket, spring onions, celery, leeks, beetroot, carrots, silverbeet, spinach, kale, zucchini, broccoli, capsicum, beans, sweetcorn, cabbage, watermelon ...
Plant herbs - basil, coriander, mint, rosemary, parsley, sage, oregano, chives, thyme, lemongrass, fennel, stevia, dill, sorrel, comfrey ...
Pick daily - peas and beans while young and tender and courgettes and capsicum before they get too large.
Thin out carrots.
Cut back tall basil, parsley etc as required so they will shoot again.
Sweetcorn may need to be staked - when the tassels start to dry they're ready for picking.
Nip the laterals off tomato plants as they grow and ensure they are well staked. Remove old leaves for good air circulation and to help reduce fungal problems. For tasty, bumper crops keep them fed and watered (too much water though will split them).
Nip off the ends of vines for good-sized cucumbers, pumpkins and squash.
Spray Success Ultra to control white butterfly caterpillars - especially cabbages, broccoli and cauliflowers. An alternative to this is Derris Dust.
Protect potatoes and tomatoes against psyllids, with Yates Mavrik or SuperShield and bug netting.
Feed all growing produce regularly with Ican Vege Food or Ican Ocean Grow or Ican Fast Food for top results!

Plant a range of fruit trees and berries and you'll be rewarded with gorgeous fruit throughout the year. Give them a sheltered spot with as much sun as possible.
Plums, apples and pears, figs, passionfruit.
Citrus - mandarins, oranges, lemons and limes.
Berries - strawberry (great for hanging baskets), raspberry, boysenberry, blackberry, blueberry and loganberry ...
Passionfruit will benefit from a feed of Ican Blood and Bone or Ican Fruit Food.
Prune plums, peaches and nectarines for strong growth and size control after fruiting.

Plant new trees and shrubs. Now is a great time to choose as there are so many flowering at the moment. Hydrangea, gardenia, hebes ...
For the birds plant - Coprosma, five finger, flax, kaka-beak, kowhai, pohutukawa, rewarewa, viburnum ...
Maples look great in all gardens and we have a large range available.
Plant new hedges. Fantastic hedging plants are Japanese Box, corokia, and NZ's favourite Griselinia Broadway Mint!
Spray hibiscus throughout the season with Grosafe Free Flo Copper. Feed with Ican Fast Food.
Box Hedging - spray with Grosafe Free Flo Copper and Grosafe Enspray 99 Oil to prevent the spread of Box Blight (Japanese Box is far more resistant than English Box to Box Blight). Alternate with Grosafe Box Blight Fighter.
Dwarf fruit trees and citrus grow well in pots and containers and yield an abundance of fruit.
Thin out leaves if necessary and prune out after fruiting for size control.
Beautifully shaped standards make spectacular landscape features - camellia, viburnum, grevillea, bay, laurel ...
Weeping maples are ideal when space is limited - Crimson Queen and Viridis will impress with their gorgeous form and colour.
Magnolia - gorgeous colours and varieties to choose from.
Good soil, feeding and watering is the key to great plants, flowers, fruit and vege production. Fertilise with Ican Ocean Grow fish fertiliser or the Tui range of Citrus Food, Strawberry Food and Rose Food. 24 Month Ican Slow Food or Slow release Novatec is ideal for trees, shrubs, palms and fruit. Hygiene is important in the garden so clear away diseased leaves and prunings and sterilse secateurs, hedge trimmers etc before and after use (bleach is a good sterilant).
Pests and Diseases - check all plants regularly - it's easier to deal with them early before they take hold and do too much damage. Use Grosafe “Growventure”and Enspray Oil as a preventative for sucking and chewing insects.
If fungus and bugs are present they need to be kept under control with regular spraying. We recommend:

Grosafe Enspray 99 Oil for the control of sucking insects on all fruit, vegetables and ornamentals.
Success Ultra for caterpillars, thrips and leafroller.
Mavrik for spider mite and psylids.
Grosafe “Growventure”for sucking and chewing insects eg scale, aphids, thrips etc.
Apply Blitzem, Quash (if you have animals) or Baysol (long acting) to control slugs and snails - particularly around new seedlings.

SATURAID is invaluable in summer - a granular wetting agent that improves the effectiveness of watering, rainfall and fertilisers. So easy to use - sprinkle on or dig in. Suitable for all areas of the garden and for pots, containers and hanging baskets.
Mulch to suppress weeds, preserve water and add nutrients with Daltons Mulch & Grow or Peastraw which we have available in bales.
Lawns need to be watered deeply regularly and kept a little longer during the summer months to help retain moisture and keep weeds at bay.
